Why Some Markets Print Their Address in the Login Screen
Some markets, Nexus and WeTheNorth among them, print their real onion address inside the login screen, drawn into the captcha image or repeated in the page header on every refresh. At a glance it looks like a design choice, maybe a branding flourish. It is not. It is an anti-phishing check built into the moment you are most vulnerable, the moment you are about to type your password.
The problem it solves is the copy. A phisher can reproduce every pixel of a market's design, because the design is served to anyone who loads it, so a copy looks identical to the original. The one thing a copy cannot do is sit at the real address. So if the market prints its own address on the page, you now have two things to compare, the address in your browser bar and the address the page claims to be at. A copy can fake one of them. It cannot fake both, because to fake the printed address it would have to be at the real address, at which point it is the real one.
This turns the login screen from a place of trust into a place of verification. Instead of hoping you are on the right site, you confirm it, in the same five seconds you would have spent typing your password anyway. The cost is nothing. The benefit is that the most expensive mistake on the dark web, typing your credentials into a copy, becomes structurally harder to make, because the page itself hands you the check.
It is worth looking for this feature when you evaluate a market, not because it is flashy, but because it shows the operator thought about the specific moment a buyer loses everything and built a defense into it. That is a small thing, but it is the kind of small thing that separates an operator who has been through it from one who has not.
