Why Monero Is the Default on Serious Markets
If you ask someone who uses the dark web regularly which coin they pay in, the answer is almost always Monero, and it is not a fashion choice. It is the direct consequence of what the coin does and what the others do not, and it is worth understanding, because it explains a lot about how the ecosystem actually works.
The core reason is the record. Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum all write a public ledger, a permanent, readable account of every transaction, including the amount and the addresses involved. Monero does not. The amount, the sender, and the receiver are hidden by default, not by an extra step, so there is no public record to follow. For a person who came to the dark web because they did not want a record, that is the entire reason to be there, and Monero is the only common coin that delivers it.
The smaller reasons reinforce it. Because there is no public record, Monero is harder to link to a known account, which means the transfer from your wallet to the market is cleaner. Because it is the privacy coin, it is the one the markets that take more than one coin list first, which means it is the default at the checkout, the one preselected, and the one you have to actively choose away from if you want a transparent coin. That default position matters, because the coin you pay in under pressure, at the checkout, is the coin you pay in most of the time, and the default is the path of least resistance.
The trade is real and it is worth naming. Monero takes slightly more effort to acquire than Bitcoin, and fewer exchanges list it. For someone who already holds Bitcoin and does not care about the record, that effort is a cost for a benefit they do not value. For someone who does care, the effort is the entire price of the difference, and it is small. The reason it is the default on serious markets is that the serious users are the ones who care, and the markets that want those users put the coin they want front and center.
